Past Events
Interview on Talakayang Migrante
On August 18, 2022, I was interviewed about Migrant Women Rise on Talakayang Migrante, a weekly livestream created by migrants for fellow migrants in Hong Kong and around the world to update them on issues impacting their communities. In the interview, I share about how I came to Hong Kong, got involved in human rights work, and what motivated me to make the documentary. It was also an honor to be on the same episode as Congressman Raoul Manuel.
Migrante Alberta Screening
On September 13, 2022 Migrante Alberta hosted an online screening of Migrant Women Rise. I was honored to join the after film discussion with Ate Dolo, who the film features. We had a great discussion about the film and the impacts that red-tagging has had internationally as activists in attendance from both Canada and Hong Kong have been the targets of red-tagging. It was a reminder of the resilience of those standing for justice and the need for ongoing international solidarity to stand with those who are affected.
City University of Hong Kong
On October 24, 2022, we were invited for a screening at City University of Hong Kong. The film was included as part of a class called “Images of the City.” Ate Dolo, Deaconess Joyous, and I were able to share about the experiences of migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong and human rights defenders in the Philippines to a class of over 90 students. If you’re an educator who also wants to show the film in your class, please feel free to reach out as well!
Portland Screening
On November 15, 2022, we were hosted by Pelikula PDX, Migrante Portland, and Gabriela Portland. Ate Dolo, Ate Annabelle, and Deaconess Joyous were able to join the group’s post screening discussion via Zoom. It was a great time to connect with our solidarity partners in the Portland area.
Francis Catedral is a Filipino American documentary filmmaker and theology student. His current documentary project is about the transnational activism of Filipino migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong.
