For all who ignore justice and compassion and the consequences of oppression;
For all of us paralyzed by fear;
Lord, in your mercy:
Preserve us from indifference to the suffering of others.
At the crossroads of Chater Road and Ice House Street in Central Hong Kong, a group of migrants, pastors, community members, and onlookers gathered for Kalbaryo ng Bayan (the People’s Calvary) on Palm Sunday. A busy intersection during the week, the road was closed down for Sunday and transformed into a church space for migrant workers to reflect on Easter, justice, and lasting peace. I filmed the service which you can watch in its entirety above and follow along with the liturgy/program here.

Throwback
Migrant Women Rise was commemorated at Gabriela’s 14th Anniversary this past year. It was great to celebrate with Ate Dolo and Ate Anabelle, who are featured in the film. It was also very meaningful to receive a certificate inside a director’s slate to recognize my work on the film!

Updates
As I mentioned in my previous newsletter, I’m working on a new documentary. There’s a lot to share, but I’ll save that for my next update. I’m looking forward to sharing some of the exciting next steps and ways you can support the project!
Francis Catedral is a Filipino American documentary filmmaker and Masters of Divinity graduate. His current documentary project is about the transnational activism of migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong.
